Is DFS the only option on all regulatory domains for 802.11a? The ETSI versions also lacks support for 5.745-5.825MHZ. Theese channels are allowed in several European countries!

Hi,

DFS has been mandatory for outdoor 5Ghz use in the ETSI regulatory domain since approx 2003. The FCC domain added this mandatory requirement in July 2007. Basically manufacturers are not allowed to supply new equipmnet without this feature enabled.

5.745-5.825MHZ use outdoors has been allowed since September 2007 in Germany and Denmark (and maybe more) I suspect future versions of hardware may allow these bands to be used if not already.

The 5.745-5.825MHz use is also allowed in Norway at 200W at PtP links. Hope Cisco could unlock theese channels now. Surely this isnt a hardware limit on the radios?

Until then we may have to order the Korean models that seems to be closest to our regulations if we want to make use of all the channels that are available to us.
