Upgrade 128MB Compact flash on CME router failed

I am trying to upgrade my CF card on my CME as Cisco sends a ridiculously small 64MB card.

I copied all files to the 128 MB flash card and reloaded the router. It does not boot and gives me an error.

The error message means that the decompressed image size is not correct, so the router will not complete the boot process.

Either the original image you copied to the new flash card is bad, or the flash card itself is not any good.

You can try booting off the 64meg card, then swap the new card and perform a format on it. This will either initialise for the image to be copied over to it, or detect bad sectors. If it still will not boot, sounds like the card is bad.

Be aware that the routers use a higher grade flash module so using something out of a camera may not necessarily work reliably. Obviously we would prefer that you buy direct off Cisco, but should you need an alternate source of high quality memory for Cisco equipment, check out www.memoryx.net

I already tried formatting the card on the Router and then loading but it did not work.

This was the Cisco authorized 3rd party flash, Part number = MEM2800-128CF.

Thanks for the website.

I am trying now to get a replacement. Will try that and let you guys know if it worked.

Hi,

Not all CFs will work in a cisco router, just like not all USB sticks do. So either you are willing to try various makes, or buy what is know to work from reliable vendors.

Hope this helps, please rate post if it does!
