show ip cef / show mls cef / attach to a DFC

Hello all,

Have a slight issue I am not sure about.

Please can you confirm that the first two statments are correct and what happens on the third ?

1. sh ip cef = This shows you the fib on the RP (ie msfc/sup720)

2. sh mls cef = This shows you the fib on the SP (ie the PFC)

3. If you attach to a DFC3, you have the option of a "show ip cef" and show mls cef". What is the difference here on the DFC3?

Many thx for your help,

Ken

yes first 2 statements are correct with one addition. "show mls cef" issued at the RP prompt shows the hardware CEF table on the PFC.

The PFC also does have a software CEF table. You can access that using the "remote command switch show ip cef" command.

issuing the "show ip cef" and "show mls cef" on the DFC3 shows the software cef table on the DFC3 and also what the hardware cef table is on the DFC3 respectively. if you suspect a cef inconsistency issue, ensure that the entry exists using option 1 , 2, and 3.

Many thx for the quick response.

Also, were my first two statements correct?

Many thx

that is brilliant. many thanks.

Sorry, couple of last questions then (if I may) :-

RP has just software table? correct?

SP has both hardware and software table? correct?

DFC has both hardware and software table? correct?

What uses the software tables on the SP and DFC? ie, if there is a punt, this has to go to the s/w table on the RP correct?

Sorry for more questions but you have explained it well, so just want a little extra infor while you are here mate :))))

Many thx, and will rate post now :))

Thx

Ken

hi guys,

what do the RP/SP/DFC stand for?

RP = Route Processor (MSFC)

SP = Switch Processor (PFC)

DFC (Distributed Forwarding Card) ie, a daughter card on a line card that performed L3 switching

Thx

Ken
