Creating a dot1q trunk on a 7200

okay...I must be loosing my mind. I'm trying to configure a fastethernet interface on a 7200 to be a 802.1q trunk to a Cisco 4000 switch.

I created the subinterface:

fastethernet 0/0.1

but in the subinterface config there's no encapsulation command.

What am I missing here?

Hi Frank

The 7200 does support 802.1q so it is probably the feature set that you are missing. You need a minimum of IP Plus to support 802.1q encapsulation.

Hi Frank,

I hope you are not running IP BASE feature set image. You need minimum IP PLUS to support encapsulation command.

This could be an issue with the code that you are running on the 7200. If I remember correctly, you need a minimum of IP Plus feature set to do 802.1q encapsulation.
