Good Evening,
I recently made a cost effective purchase of a Catalyst 5000 chassis for my cisco classes. I received a supervisor engine I with the whole deal. I also happen to have some ws-x5234-RJ45 modules laying around. I installed one of the modules in the chassis and seem to be getting a response that the module is not supported. I was wondering if I happen my mitts on a supervisor engine II or III, that it would allow the module switching blade to work. I was doing some looking around on the web and came across what looked like another set of female connectors on the left back side of the supervisor module (when looking at the face). I also realized that the main board I have in the chassis doesn't have male pins for the supervisor to set into. I did some looking on the web aswell, and what seems to be said is that it will work. Is this correct?
Thanks

It should work . Look at your code version on your supervisor . You need at least version 4.5.1 ro support the 5234 card , if its lower than that you need to upgrade the code.

No it wouldn't way too old . You do get the prize though I have never seen catos code that is that low . You are running 2.4.5 which must have been like the first code they put out of the 5000 . You need at least version 4.5.1 for a 5234 module . It is high enough for the 5020 modules .

Good Evening,
Yeah, I picked this puppy up on ebay for a swell price. It was actually used at some hospital down in Florida. Had some class a addresses assigned to the interfaces. A little suprised they got their hands on some class a addresses.
Thanks alot for the help on this. If anyone else is looking for the procedures, check out .. http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/473/160.html#prereq.
Once again thanks!

If you are looking to completely wipe out the config , do a "clear config all" , this will set it to factory defaults...
