Are there ANY caveats/major issue to upgrading from CCM 5.1 to 6.0(1a)

I just completed a major upgrade from CCM 4.x to 5.x and IPCC 4.x to 5.x. This was one heck of an upgrade process! There were a few issues with IPCC, specifically enterprise data pop for the agents didn't work, recorded calls were not purged after 7 days and some other items. CallManager had a few unpublished steps that had to take place to allow the new IPCC box. All this to say, the upgrade had some, "hitches."

I would like to upgrade from CCM 5.1 to 6.0(1a) and would like to know if there are ANY known issues maybe published or not or any advise from someone who has done the same.

1. We have IPCC 5.01 sr2

2. Unity 4.x (with latest DST)

3. We use extension mobility heavily with our support center and IPCC.

Are there any issues with integrating the other systems, changes that need to be made, licensing etc...???

Thank you in advance for your response...

Hi Walter,

I just wanted to add this note to the good info from Mike. I'm not sure what 5.x release you upgraded to but be careful with the Caveat for 5.1(3);

This restriction does not apply to CCM 5.1.2 (as it does to CCM 5.1.3) :)

Release Notes for Cisco Unified CallManager Release 5.1(2b)

Here is the CCM 5.1.3 note;

Do Not Upgrade from Cisco Unified CallManager 5.1(3) to Cisco Unified Communications Manager 6.x

It is not possible to successfully upgrade from Cisco Unified CallManager Release 5.1(3) to Cisco Unified Communications Manager Release 6.x.

Hope this helps!

Make sure you apply for the new "Node Licence" because your 5.x node license will not work in 6. You have to go to the http://www.cisco.com/upgrades to order your 6.0 upgrade media (Even though you already have the 6.x media). This process creates a Cisco Sales Order Number which allows Cisco to generate you a new 6.0 Specific Node License. Give yourself about 4-5 days since this process was a bit slow for me.

HTH!

Thank you both for the information provided. According to Cisco, 6.1(1) is now supported as un upgrade path from 5.1(3). I will wait a few months before doing this upgrade to allow others to work the bugs out...

** Possible Resolution **

As per Cisco Compatibility Matrix, the upgrade path should be from 5.1(3) to

6.1(1).

Also, please refer to the following documentation to have a look at the open

caveats in CCM 6.1.1:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/rel_notes/6_1_1/cucm-rel_

note-611a.pdf

In the above documentation also explains the features provided by CCM 6.1.1.

For your convenience I have included my contact details below. However,

please do not hesitate in contacting me if you have any further questions.

Hi Walter,

You are very welcome! I have read a few posts since this thread was started that show that this upgrade from CCM 5.1(3) to 6.1(1) is working fine. The only issues that people seem to mention is the "heads up" that the Licensing must be changed and to make sure you have the new Licenses in hand before going forward.

I do like your strategy of letting the Bugs get worked out before upgrading (very, very smart!)

Take care,

Rob
