Trunk Command:Break connection?

Unanswered Question

If I enter the following command into a 2950 and also a 4006:

conf t

int gi1/1 (for the 4006 and gi0/1 for the 2950 Med Rec switch)

switchport mode trunk

switchport trunk native-vlan 1

will this cause a network disruption for those devices plugged into the 2950 (set up trunking for the 2950 to the 4006)?

thanks for you help

I have this problem too.

Hi Paul,

You do not need to enter a command "switchport trunk native-vlan 1" as native vlan is always 1 by default on trunk ports.

When you configure trunk between 2 switches the devices plugged into 2950 should not face any network disruption but depending what was your topology earlier this may bring very little delay due to stp covergance. Again not necessary all depends upon what was your topology earlier and what it is now.

Hi Paul,

Oki so your 2950 port where you configured these commands will be conncted to the NAC device directly correct?

Configuring this command in this sceanrio will not affect any users in 2950 switch as it will just bring your 2950 link up to the NAC appliance and should not disrupt your existing traffic.

If your ports on 2950 on which users are connected are configured in such a way that they should start hitting NAC appliance first then it may disrupt the traffic for a while but otherwise you are good to go.
