We have a primary DSL connection and a backup modem connection. As soon as primary fails, modem dials out. Under this situation we want backup interface (dialer) to send a trap regarding it own status with itself as source of the trap. Currently its not sending any traps regarding its own status. We cannot use "snmp-server source-interface" in the configuration because of some limitations. Any experts here?

Is the network management system reachable at the time the trap would be sent? The time between when the DSL connection drops and the modem connects is when the router will send the trap. Does the trap have to go across this connection?

Yes thats right, the trap needs to go though the modem connection with dialer interface as the source of the trap. There is no reachability issue here.
Thanks!

There is a reachability problem. The router will send the trap when the DSL connection goes down. For a few seconds/minutes (until the modem connection is established) there is no connectivity. The DSL connection is down and the modem connection is not yet established. You might have better luck sending a trap that the modem connection has been established versus the DSL connection is down.
