We are getting the following bgp error (informational?) message on our routers:
Jan 22 10:07:49: %BGP-6-ASPATH: Long AS path 65535 19591 19591 65201 65301 65101 65000 65100 65300 65400 1803 65407 received from 10.0.120.125: More than configured MAXAS-LIMIT
The error decoder tool suggests contacting TAC.
I need to know the following:
1. What exactly does this message mean?
2. Does the error represent a problem?
3. If so, does it have an impact on the network?
4. If so, what impact would it have.
It doesn't seem to have an impact that I can identify, but I just want to be sure.
Thanks,
Greg

Hi,
<%BGP-6-ASPATH: > General error means the local router BGP peer/neighbor send an invalid AS path. This could be due to sequence of public and private AS or the second explanation below or both.

Hi Greg
It seems to be suggesting that the AS Path is too long and so the router has been discarded. Do you have a
"bgp maxas-limit
anywhere in your config.
The route it is complaining about - is it entered in the bgp table or is it discarded.
