Maximum IP Phones per VLAN

Our company is getting ready to implement Cisco IP phones for our company. I'm in the middle of creating VLANS and subnet schemes for VoIP.

Right now, i've created a Voice VLAN per floor and there will be a maximum of 250 phones per floor.

For our Voice VLAN I have 2 class C subnets assigned.

What is the recommended number of VoIP phones per VLAN?

Is there a maximum number of VoIP phones you can have per VLAN?

Please advise

Thanks,

z

No, there isn't a maximum per Vlan. Same logic applied as any other regular IP device.

No hard fast rule for maximum phones. That said, for these designs I recommend logically dividing up the phone pools into physical zones; per building or per floor for example. Based on the vlan and then therefore the ip subnet you can manage call routing in CCM (i.e. device mobility). Based on your description you're on the right track.

Thanks!
