We are installing 2 x 6509s with an ACE in each. The question is if we are using two ACEs for redundancy (with mirrored configs), does it mean that having bought two sets of 20 virt contexts we would affectively end up with one set of 20 shared between both of ACEs?

If you want redundancy, yes, you will have 1 ace active and the other one standby.

However, each context is independent from one another.

So you could have context 1 through 10 active on ACE-1 and contexts 11 through 20 active on ACE-2.

Like this you split the load between the 2 modules.
