The problem may occur due to the following reasons
1. Plugging wrong
2. Cable installed wrong or bad.
3. Bad drive.
4. Bad controller
If all the above four are fine than sure there is some problem in the Bios. Enter the bios and load the setup defaults - the virus may have changed some stuff around - or there is a possiblilty that that motherboard will not deal with a disk that large (at least w/o a bios update).
