IP phone configuration difference on the switch

if we need configure the port on the switch to allow voice traffic and data traffic, we have 2 kinds of configurations:

confgiure1:

switchport voice vlan 2

switchport mode access

spanning-tree port fast

configuration2:

switchport trunk encap dot1q

switchport mode trunk

switchport trunk native vlan 1

can both these 2 work? what is the difference ?

The thing to understand is that you require a trunk port to carry more than one vlan i.e voice and data

Now the first config definitely works woth Cisco phones as they use CDP and dynamically negotiate a trunk.

The 2nd option is mostly used with other vendor phones like Avaya, nortel etc which requires us to set the port as trunk to carry both data and voice vlan
