Cat 5e vs Cat 6 UTP in data center for servers.

We are going to be consolidating single servers into a large VMWare environment and the topic of how best to support the 1000baseT NICs on the VMWare boxes came up. Currently we use Cat-5e cables to connect individual servers to 6509 WS-X6748-GE blades. The VMWare interfaces will also be connected to these blades.

Cat5e is designed for 1000baseT, so will we gain anything by going to Cat6?

One negative of Cat6 is we'd have to use pre-made cables because of the closer tolerances required for crimping the ends.

Any thoughts on this?

Any chance of going to 10GB or beyond? If not CAT5e should suffice, that's what we use, and have had no problems.
