Hi,

LAN with approximately 9 Switches. One switch is Cisco4507 and rest are 2948/3550/3560. 4507 has uplinks to rest of the switches in different closets.

The tech person initaly configured all the switches for VTP: SERVER with domain:XYZ . Now one of the 3550 switch is acting as VTP updater.

Incase if I want to reconfigure all the switches for VTP mode : Transperant , will there be any production impact..?

If yes, what steps/care shopuld I take inorder to take make this VTP change.

Thank you im advance.

MS

You shouldn't see major production impact. You are basically transferring the Vlan information from vlan.dat to the running configuration. One thing to keep in mind, if you have a switch acting as client on that domain and change every single switch to transparent, the client will lose its vlan information once rebooted.

With that said, it's best practice to make any changes in the network within a maintenance window which is done during non-business hours.

HTH,

Thank you Edison.. another question.. There is no need to 'reboot' the switches after changing the role from Server--> Transperant.. right..? Also any client also from client---> Transperant(do not see any cleints though) - no reboot necessary..correct..?

Thank you for quick reply.

MS

No reboot necessary.

Good luck.
