hello

i have already taken the exam 640-821 ccna intro, and was ready to take the second exam (640-811) but have seen on the cisco page that this exam has now been retired.

my question is can i take the new equivalent of 640-811 which is 640-822 and get my ccna qualification? or does my first exam no longer count and I'll have to do both again?

Hi,

Your first exam is valid for 3 years from the day you passed it. You just need to pass 640-822 before the validity of your first exam expires. Check the "Do certification exams expire?" in the bottom of this link http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/le11/learning_about_certifcation_exams.html

You can check this also from Cisco Certification Tracking System https://i7lp.integral7.com/durango/do/login?ownername=cisco&channel=cisco&basechannel=integral7

hiya

just to clarify I checked out my progress in the certification tracking, because when i looked at the breakdown of the 640-822 exam it looked very much like what i had already done in my intro, despite being listed as the replacement for the old icnd (640-811) exam.

if you've already passed 640-821 which was the old intro exam you need to take 640-816 (icnd2) to make up the ccna - not 822.

this is clarified on the certification online support:

Mix and Match old and new CCNA exams

Question

If I pass the INTRO exam and pass ICND2, will I achieve CCNA certification?

Answer

Yes. The INTRO 640-821 exam can be combined with the ICND2 640-816 exam to complete CCNA certification for as long as the INTRO exam is valid-up to three years from date that you pass the INTRO exam, per standard policy.

The INTRO 640-821 and ICND 640-811 exams will not be available after November 6, 2007.

i found this a little confusing as its the icnd part 1 that according to the retired exams lists replaces the old icnd exam - so maybe a typo?

thanks

Hi,

That's strange the.

Replacement for 640-821 INTRO is 640-816 ICND2

Replacement for 640-811 ICND is 640-822 ICND1

So if you already passed 640-821 INTRO, you just need to take and pass 640-822 ICND1.

Well, in the past the exam information in the Carrer Certification Paths web site is accurate than the Certification Tracking System. Recently, Certification Tracking System is more accurate than Carrer Certification Paths web site exam information.

To be very sure, contact Certification Online Support and keep their response :) http://ciscocert.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ciscocert.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php

Hi

yeah i thought it was strange too - but i've checked the online support centre and its definitely 640-816 that combines with the original intro exam to make up the ccna.

to be honest i think the list of retired exams has just got the replacements in the wrong order, cos 816 is definitely the old ICND material. and 822 is all the basics.

thanks
