called name displayed on external called party

I thought the name displayed on the called party(out bound call through PSTN) is the one defined on the line setting: Display field. but I look further, it says display(internal caller ID). Does this mean it only applies when call between IP phones? If that's the case where to control the name display to external called party? One of my customers has a problem: whenever they call outside, the called party shows a fake name. I was thinking initially this was due to the display setting on the line, but now I think it is more likely the setting in the carrier PSTN switch. Right?

You are correct. The PSTN switch is more than likely controlling outbound Caller ID name. If you have a name in the Display field it will send out to the PSTN switch, but they more than likely won't honor it.

If you are setup for PRI, you can do a debug isdn q931 on a call out to the PSTN and see what is being delivered.

HTH

Thanks,
