We used it here in Italy, it performes very good.

The carrier was Vodafone, but I think it can work with almost all carriers, it ranges from standard gprs to high speed hsdpa, but we had the chance to test it only at umts rates.

Bye,

Max.

Hi Max,

I'm having some problems configuring a Vodafone Internet access (in Italy) with HWIC 3G GSM, can you please post your configuration (APN, username, password, dial string etc.)

Thank you very much.

Using 3G is a very good way in remote locations where cabling is either too expensive or too difficult to get, providing coverage is decent. With HSDPA you can get around 3 Mbit, which exceeds ADSL uplink speeds.

Since the location will be fixed you might also be able to make cost agreements with the telco since it will always be in one cell.
