Carrier transitions

We have a client with a 3825 router with an NM-4T. They are using port 0,1,2 in a ppp multilink bundle. They having slow bandwidth issues and the all of the ports on the NM-4T are showing carrier transitions, even port 3 which does not have anything connected to it. They have checked with the line provider and the provider claims the lines are clean. The slowness issues seemed to go away after rebooting the router, but the problem returned within two days.

Hi, read your post and I would suggest and extended by your telco provider. Carrier transition are cause by activity on the telco line, some times the telco is not aware of problems on there own line. The last time I dealt with this our problem ticket was open for weeks before the telco replaced their SmartJack and the problem was solved. Do a clear counters on the interface and monitor the errors and carrier transitions if they are incrementing in large numbers, you can do a loopback test on your CSU/DSU for problems, then call you provider and insist on an extended test atlease 1 hour in each direction. Also check you show log for interface bouncing could help with bandwidth issues. HTH
