Catalyst 3550 Unpingable / No telnet access Sometimes

We have a Catalyst 3550 and intermittently lose the ability to ping or telnet to the switch. That ability comes back sporadically and will disappear yet again. The switch operates normally except for this occasional inconvenience.

Any ideas on what to look for, or what this might be would be most appreciated. Thanks.

How's the CPU utilization? If it's being over-utilized it could very well not have CPU cycles available to respond to pings or maintain a telnet session.

Also, do the logs have any information? Is it possible someone is trying to add a device to the network with the same IP address?

CPU utilization appears normal, and as I mentioned before all other traffic functions just fine through the switch, which by my understanding would slow the whole switch down if it was CPU related.

Logs show no glaring errors or issues.

It is not possible that someone is trying to add a device to the network. IP conflict is not present.

Please let me know if anything else comes to mind. Thanks so much.
