Question of BGP "network" statement

When using "network" statement to advertise a route in BGP, does the route have to be a BGP route first? or it just needs to be in the routing table?

Hi,

Using "network" statement in BGP will make the prefix to be "Internal Origin" (i) type. Only criteria is the prefix should be learned by the originating router by any means (IGP even static or e-BGP)... i.e.. originating router should have an entry in its routing table...

Origin is a well-known mandatory which will be used in BGP routing alogrithm...

It just needs to be in the routing table. But there is one proviso: the mask must match exactly as well as the subnet.

But if you supply the classful network without a mask, then if there is any part of that classful network in the routing table, BGP will take on board the whole classful network. (Although I think you may need auto-summarization enabled for that to happen.)
