Sending EMS Alerts with Unity VM Only

Unity 4.0(5) VM Only/Exchange 2000. I want to configure EMS to send alerts to SMTP addresses. Our client's primary mail server is also Exchange (2000 or 2003). Can someone tell me how to configure the Unity Exchange connector to point to the existing mail server to source the alerts? I'm assuming this is what's needed (or at least one approach).
