we need to install cisco unity in unified communication mode.we procured unity(ver 5.1) in failover mode and would be using Exchange 2007 and Microsoft AD for messaging and directory requirement.i was going through the design document of unity and it was mentioned that i need a third party server if i need to install unity in unified communication mode. the document does not gave any specific details ..

can some one point me to usefull cisco links..or any design details of third party server as was metioned in SRND.

Your basic design is the following with Failover:

Unity 5.1 on MCS 78xx (Server 1)

Unity 5.1 on MCS 78xx (Server 2 for failover)

Exchange 2007 on (pick your hardware Server 3)

AD Domain controllers (Servers 4,5, etc Global Catalog servers, etc)

When you use Exchange 2007, it has to be off box with Unified Messaging. If you are using Voicemail only, and want to use (2) box configuration, it has to be Exchange 2003. Exchange 2003 is now supported on the Failover server with Failover running. (but no 2007!)

hope this helps
