Vlans and HSRP standby limits

I have HSRP configured on vlans on our 4506 switch and 3570 switch. I have now configured more than 32 vlans on the 3750; how do I go about configuring standby groups on the 33-40th vlans; can I use duplicate HSRP groups? Am I just out of luck? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes you can use the same hsrp group many times .We have a large installation of 2 big 6500's with about 70-80 vlans and they all use hsrp standby group 1 and we have never had a problem. You do not need a unique standby group number for each vlan.

Thank you, Glen. I was hoping that was the case!

Hi Chloris,

For troubleshooting purposes and readability of your configuration it may be better to use standby group numbers that are the same as the vlan numbers.

Though it is not a requirement.

Standby group numbers can range from 0 to 255.
