CM 4.1(3) Pub & Sub time sync ?

Unanswered Question
Feb 13th, 2008

Am I missing something obvious ? I thought that regardless of where the Pub got it's time source the Sub would pull it's time from the Sub.

Just done an install and the Sub points to the Pub in ntp.conf but it just isn't synchronising - my question ? ...

Should it ?

Thanks,

Roy

I have this problem too.

Hi Rob,

It was that very document that led me to think the time sync should happen by default.

I have restarted the servers as well as just the service a number of times in the hope things would fall into place.

Both servers are in a 192.168.0.0/24 range, hosts and lmhosts files are in place, both servers happily communicate via name and addresses but the time won't sync !

AAARRGGHHH!

Right, re-read things (again !) and now I get it (I think.)

There is NO time sync automatically across the cluster, if you choose not to access a time server the method to keep the time pretty synchronised is ....

Enable task scheduler (not too happy about this but if needs must.)

Then follow ...

Complete these steps in order to create a scheduled job to run the Net command with the time option:

1.Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks > Add Scheduled Task and click Next.

2.When requested to choose a program, choose browse and browse to c:\winnt\system32\net.exe.

3.Type in a name for the task (for example, Time Sync).

4.Choose perform the task daily and click Next.

5.Choose a time that you want this to run and click Next.

6.Enter the username of a user that belongs to the local admin group, enter the appropriate password, and click Next.

7.Check Open advanced properties for this task and click Finish.

8.When the Properties dialog box opens, add in the line C:\WINNT\system32\net.exe time \\CCM /set /y in the run field.

Replace CCM with the server name or IP address of the server with which you want this server to synchronize.

9.Click OK in order to save and close the Scheduled Task.

Note: This procedure also works on Cisco Unity servers when you enable a timing protocol and synchronize to another server within a cluster.

I have just tested this and it works, however I'd rather it was more frequent than once a day, but you can't have everything !!!!
