Auto Negotiation & Limit Highest Speed

Is it possible (& how, feature available?) to provide with auto-negotiation in a 10/100/1000-TX switching port environment a limitation to a-100 (FE) speed.

Reason: We want to provide auto negotiation, but avoid the possibility that a client workplace connects with GE (a-1000) speed.

Thanx for any ideas/inputs.

Yes most of the newer IOS switches allow this , just set the ports as "speed auto 10 100 , this restricts it to either 10 or 100 whatever it negotiates , if you want 100 only just remove the 10 parameter.

Hi Glen

Thank you! I'll check it out.

Hi Glen

You wrote: 'Yes most of the newer IOS switches allow this'

What does it mean exactly? Do you eventually have consistent informations about this issue? I've started google-ing on CCO, but it's not easy...

Is it possible to say something like 'on platform x since IOS release y this feature is available'?

Please see:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3560/software/release/12.2_37_se/command/reference/cli3.html#wp1947308

Release 12.2(20)SE1

Support for the 10, 100, and 1000 keywords with the auto keyword was added.

Tip: When looking for a command, go to the documentation and pick a switch (I usually pick the 3560). Select the latest software release and then 'Switch Command Reference'.
