we were trying to choose between ASA 5510 and 5520.

I see the greater features on 5520. Am I right in thinking this is a suitable choice for a small to medium business?

20 is probably overkill, but it depends on what your definition of small/medium is.

the price differnce not too much..I would say go for ASA 5520 in case tomorrow your bussiness needs/traffic increases

My suggestion would still be to invest a little more , just in case your bussiness needs expands

however in case your need is really limited and would remain same for next 10 years..go for ASA 5510
