Cisco 2511 console access troubleshoot

I'm using a rollover cable patched to the CAB-OCTAL-ASYNC on 2511 to connect to a equipment console normally requiring a null modem cable. The issue is there is no screen output. Can you suggest what could go wrong with the cables? Here is the line modem status before and after the connection attempt.

Before making connection:

Modem hardware state: noCTS* noDSR noDTR RTS

Connection is made but no response from screen:

Modem hardware state: noCTS* noDSR DTR RTS

Thanks for your help.

My memory is that CAB-OCTAL-ASYNC implements a rolled cable. So when you add a rollover cable you are essentially getting a double rolled cable. Try patching a straight through cable and see if it works better.

Rick,

Thanks for the reply. I switched to 2511+Rollover+Null Modem cable and everything works. Here is the modem state after the connection is made:

Modem hardware state: CTS* DSR* DTR RTS

Only change when it's connected is from "noDTR" to "DTR".

I am glad that you got it working. Thank you for confirming my suggestion that the issue was the type of cable that you were using.
