BGP with same Provider Active\FailOver Router

We are going to a new setup with a high BW connection through router1 and low BW connection through router 2. Both are through the same Service provider.

The goal is to use the High BW connection for all traffic and then fail-over to the secondary connection, if the primary fails.

I was planning to run BGP at both routers and then advertise our IP address space with a lower MED to the ISP through the High BW router and using a higher MED on the low BW router.

1. Is there anything else that need to be done to achieve this goal ?

2. I want to the ISP to advertise a default route towards both routers (instead of all BGP routes). Is that going to be possible ? Any possible issues with this ?

Thanks,

Naman

Hi Naman,

So far so good, but the best is to talk to your provider technical team and air your idea on what to do with the two links. Because it depends on what they allow or not. Also, make an agreement with them about your two connections to terminate in different router at their side if its for redundancy.
