CCNA Cert guidance...

Answered Question
Feb 16th, 2008

I have been in the IT industry since 1995 - have the MCSE (NT4.0), and recently decided to go for the CCNA in 2 parts - ICND1, then the ICND2. I have been using our CBTnuggets videos provided by the company I work for and I bought Wendell Odom's books - ICND1/ICND2. Is this enough for studying? What else should I get?

I have this problem too.

you also have to use these two simulators:

1. dynamips/dynagen

a- video training ( http://classroom.internetworkexpert.com/p27794135/)

b- http://www.internetworkexpert.com/resources/iosonpc.htm

c- http://dynagen.org/tutorial.htm#_Memory_Usage_Optimizations

d- to download it http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=160317

e- to check the site (http://dynagen.org/)

f- i use GUI version. ( http://dynagui.sourceforge.net/)

g- tutorial for dynamips/dynagen ( http://www.networkworld.com/community/node/13399 )

h- http://7200emu.hacki.at/

I- the best is (http://www.gns3.net/).use it with cisco router/switch images.

2. networksims simulator

(http://www.networksims.com). I try it by myself. it is great.

Thank you very much for your response. Are the simulators you outlined for the CCNA as a whole? Or are they broken down into ICND1 or ICND2?

zaherhamiyah Sat, 02/16/2008 - 10:44

the simulators i mentioned are not only for CCNA.

you can use GNS3 (works as dynamips/dynagen) for production and simulat real life environments.it used to design and test network configurations prior to deployment of networks.

you can use it to study CCIE also.

As for networksims it is for CCNA, CCNP and CCSP.

if you want more depth, you have also to google for (The official response from Cisco regarding Dynamips emulation software violating Cisco IOS copyright and licensing agreements)

Ok. I suppose I need to purchase a test environment. There are some on Ebay. Any other ideas on where to buy some equipment?

Thanks

you can do that but Beware of buying new Cisco from sellers on eBay. check this link ( http://www.networkworld.com/community/node/18275)

Last advice you have to practice on real cisco devices which ever you do. simulators are of great help but does not take place of real equipment.

try to buy 1801-k9 router. it is excellent for your CCNA and CCNP study.

you can see on CCNA Prep Center (http://forums.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/PrepCenter?page=main) and CCNP Prep Center (http://forums.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/CCNP?page=main)lab suggestions for equipments to use for your study.
