Hi everybody,

i have a Solaris 10 Box (Full Install - with all Java stuff - silly eh?) and a LMS install in /lms/CSCOpx.

So far ok.

Now there is s symbolic link /opt/CSCOpx leading to /lms/CSCOpx.

Please take a look into the system variables.

Soething messed up here.

Can this cause some strange behavour with e.g. Topology Services??

What do you think is messed up? What problems are you seeing with Topo?

Note: a mix of realpath/symlink path objects is normal in a custom installation. It looks strange, but it has not been known to cause any problems. One thing that could cause problems is your locale being set to German instead of US English or Japanese.

Hi Joe,

many thanks for your reply.

I came in doubt about this cause of several things:

1. The mdcsupport told me everytime that another instance of mscdsupport is running (which was not true) or the path /opt/CSCOpx/MDC/etc/mdcsuppottemp already existed. But i meantime i figured out that the costumer geve my user not root but even casusers rights. Maybe this is the problem.

2. In Topo View are some direct links between devices not straight connected. They are wrinkeld - like another devie is in the path. Whih is not and there is no icon shown in the wrinkle.

3. Path Analysis: In Path Analysis the VLAN Mapping lasts very long to open. Round about 15 Minutes. The Discovery took much longer. And even longer if a had checked the DNS Option.

4. In DFM in the DDV the Interfaces for the 6500-series are not shown. The ports are ok, but the interfaces not. I have hot an jsp-failure yesterday. I will post this in round about 90 Minuten, when i am on my workdesk.

;-)

So i was not sure if this behaviour could have benn caused from the symlink.

I konw that for normal the symlink does not affect the behaviour of an application.

But in the past i had problems with an Java environment and symlinked paths.

Thanks a lot for your time and valuable help here in the forum.

Best reagrds,

Frank

P.S. I will fix the locales - of course
