Write Mem or Copy Run Start

Unanswered Question
Feb 20th, 2008

Im used to using write mem and i notcied in the forums that it is an older command. Most of what i configure is 831, 871, and 3002 every now and then some 2950s or 2600s.

For passing my CCNA which command should i use? The write mem seems to be a shorter command which lends speed when needed so why the discontinuation? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I have this problem too.

You are correct that "copy run start" is the newer command but IOS provides backward compatibility to the old command

For your exams though i would suggest you use the newer command

Does this also mean that the write erase command is disappearing as well?

the write mem/erase commands have been 'outdated' for as long as i can remember. i'll be shocked and awed if/when they actually go away.

for test purposes though, try to stick with the newer commands.

LOL, I bought into the idea that 'wr' was going to go away years ago, so I started doing 'copy run start'. But when I started working on lab prep, I switched back to 'wr' and I think I'll just forget all those years of typing the longer equivalent! I don't think the older abbreviated version is ever going anywhere...
