Hi all. Having issues today with setting up speed dials. I have associated a user to the end user group, so that they can go in a browser and manager their own speed dials. I have done this for one user to test with, but when I press the services button on the phone, it doesnt show the speed dial. It only points to the web page to go set them up. Anyone know what I need to do at this point to get these speed dials to show up on the phone? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Usually speed dials are configured to one of the line buttons on the phone. Say if you are having 7960/61 model phone, usually i can have one main number and 5 speed dials(variable) configured to the line buttons.

For this to happen you have to setup the phone template and tell the phone which line button wants to be a speed dial.

Also you may want to consider "Abbreviated Dialing" which means, you can configure 1-99 in your ccm user page, with abbreviated dials. So when you press the 1 on the keypad, you would see a softkey "AbbrDial" and when you press the softkey it will dial the number you have configured for number 1 option in ccmuser page.

Hi John,

The Speed Dials that are configured by the User via ccmuser are associated with spare Line Buttons on the Phone as shown for this test phone;

The following options are available for SEP00170EEE2F88 (Test Q335):

Forward all calls to a different number

Add/Update your Speed Dials

Configure your Cisco IP Phone Services

Configure your Cisco Personal Address Book

Change the Message Waiting Lamp policy for your phone

Change the Ring Settings for your phone

Change the Locale for this phone

Change the Locale for these web pages

Change your Password

Change your PIN

Add/Update Your Speed Dials

Configure the Speed Dial Buttons for your Cisco 7961 (SEP00170EEE2F88)

Use this page to enter the phone numbers you want associated with each of your Speed Dial buttons. When you are done, click Update.

Note: The display text for each speed dial on the phone can contain up to 30 characters.

The Speeddials that are accessable via the Services Button are called Personal Fastdials and are configured via the IP Phone :) To access these, make sure that the Phone in question is Subscribed the to Personal Fastdials Service.

Hope this helps!

Rob

Ok, Im a little confused. I obviously thought the wrong thing here. I guess now Im thinking that if they have all the "line appearances" taken up, then they cant do "speed dialing", correct? They would have to do the abbreviated dialing instead?

Hi John,

This is confusing, period, so don't feel alone here. It's really just terminology :) The fact is exactly what you said here. If there are no spare Line Buttons then the user has to use abbreviated dialing/fastdials.

Hope this helps!

Rob

Thanks guys. Much appreciated.
