For an off-net ad-hoc conference to work ( the initiator uses a Cisco IP phone, the rest are PSTN callers) is a hardware conference bridge a must? We have only a software conference bridge, it's not working.

voice class codec 1
codec preference 1 g711ulaw
codec preference 2 g711alaw
codec preference 3 g729r8
dial-peer voice 10 voip
destination-pattern 50999....
voice-class codec 1
session target ipv4:180.188.179.70
dtmf-relay h245-alphanumeric
no vad
Sorry, codec selection is only available for VoIP dial-peers
you can create another dial-peer with
incoming called-number .
instead of destination-pattern
and set the voice class codec in it to match it as the incoming dial-peer
Here you have some additional info:
A busy tone is received when the user calls across a gateway over a dial peer with a default codec

It really depends on the codecs you're using within the RTP streams. SW CFB can only handle G711 so if the PSTN streams come in with G729 it will fail
If you're using an H323 gateway you can configure a voice class codec with G711alaw and g711ulaw for the dial-peers you're matching to force the use of this codec.
you can also configure the codec per dial peer but it's easier to configure the voice class codec and apply it to several dial-peers
if you do not have the possibility to change the codec you're using you may need a HW CFB or XCODER

Hi Jaime,
Could you please send me a sample config of the voice class codec config & the process of applying it to dial-peers. Can it be applied to pots dial-peers?
Have a nice day.
Regards,
Abhijit.

Hi Jaime,
Thanks a lot. The issue is resolved now. I configured an IOS enhanced conference bridge on the H.323 gateway ( 2811 router) & evrything works fine.
In fact, before trying this I had tried the steps listed by you a few days back. It didn't work. My guess is that since we were using only a software bridge ( no hardware resource was configured at that time), the system was unable to negiotiate the codec when a voip call leg was established between the Gateway & CCM. I guess that leg was in G.729 while a software bridge talks only G.711.
Thanks & Regards,
Abhijit Das.
