Layer 3 VLAN rate limiting on 6500s

Hello,

I was wondering if when using Layer 3 VLAN routing, by using the rate-limit command, does it successfully rate limit the traffic when you have CEF enabled.

My thought was that when CEF is enable, some traffic will not need to touch the VLAN Layer 3 interface, and will bypass the rate limit that is placed.

I am hoping that this is not the case, but if anyone has any experience with this, please let me know.

The situation is, I have multiple customers who have a 100Mb ethernet handoff, and some of them are using more then the bandwidth they should, which is 15Mb.

I am looking for the best way to rate limit there traffic, if rate-limit on the Layer 3 VLAN interface is not the best way, I am open for suggestions, thank you.

You can enable rate-limit only the software switched traffic, which should be minimal so you are facing this issue.
