In giving an answer I believe that we need to be careful to understand what you are asking in your question. If your question means is there a way to connect the switches using sfp so that the switches can exchange frames, learn MAC addresses, and do layer 2 forwarding to each other then the answer is yes that you can connect the switces without the special 3750 stackwise cables. But if you are asking about the enhanced throughput capability of stacking and the ability to manage several switches through 1 management address then the answer is no, you can only get these advantages of stacking when you use the special stackwise cables.
