Hi all, I need to monitor the utilisation of my internet routers, I do not have access to them, nor does my symantec firewall provide this info, we have a switch for the internet (public network), is it possible to monitor the bandwidth of a port without putting any ip addresses on the switch? or should I put the switch on a private address range so noone can get to it from outside and monitor it using snmp ?

Get a Lap top and install the wireshark protocol analyzer or another kind of protocol analyzer then configure the span feature in your switch then start to monitor your network, this configuration does not require and ip address configured in the switch

Also you can configure the switch with a private ip address, configure the SNMP parameter in the switch and then connect your SNMP server and monitor your network
