Hi Celso,

Hope things are well with you my friend :) In CCM 5.x and above IP Phones require DLU's or Device License Units that must be purchased from Cisco. These DLU's are tied to the Mac Address of the 1st node (License Manager) which is the Publisher server;

Device licenses are required for Cisco devices and for third-party devices,with the flexibility to replace third-party devices with Cisco devices. Device licenses are sold in increments of device-license units (DLU's). Device-license units are assigned to each device connected to Cisco Unified CallManager 5.0. Each device is assigned a unit number based on the type and capabilities of the device. Devices with more complex and high-end capabilities are assigned a higher number of units compared to devices with basic capabilities,

Licensing

Application and phone software licenses are enforced. The system manages the maximum number of devices that can be provisioned.

• Each device (Cisco Unified IP phones, third-party devices, and video devices) provisioned in the system corresponds to a number of device license units (DLUs), depending on its capabilities; the total number of units is managed in Cisco Unified CallManager to determine capacity.

• DLUs must be purchased to cover the number of devices connected to Cisco Unified CallManager.

• Third-party SIP devices require DLUs for operation with Cisco Unified CallManager.

Here is the DLU breakdown;

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7902G = 1

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7905G = 2

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7911G = 3

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7912G = 3

Cisco Unified Wireless IP Phone 7920 (no battery) = 4

Cisco Unified IP Conference Station 7936 = 3

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7940G = 4

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7941G = 4

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7941G-GE = 4

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7960G = 4

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7961G = 4

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7961G-GE = 4

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7970G = 5

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7971G = 5

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7985G = 6

Third-party SIP device (basic) = 3 (third-party)

Third-party SIP device (advanced) = 6 (third-party

Procedure

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1 Choose System > License > Upload License File.

The License File Upload window displays.

Step 2 The Existing License Files drop-down list box displays the license files that are already uploaded to the server.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note Click View File to view the file content of any existing files.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 3 To choose a new license file to upload, click Upload License File.

The Upload File pop-up window displays.

Step 4 Browse and choose a license file to upload to the server.

Step 5 Click Upload License File.

After the upload process is complete, the Upload Result file displays.

Step 6 Click Close.

Step 7 In the License File Upload window, the status of the uploaded file displays.

great man.. thanks again

so the dlu license will be generated from cisco after i submit to them the mac of the first node?

Hi Celso,

You are always welcome :) If this is an upgrade from a 4.x CCM Version,yes, Cisco licensing will email you the license after you submit the Publisher mac along with the Device list from the License unit Calculator.

They need to know the number of various IP Phone models along with the 1st Node mac address (and number of Subscriber Servers) to create the proper 6.x License :) The new license will then be loaded by you onto the License Unit Manager (1st node).

The Cisco CallManager server where the license file is loaded, assumes the functionality of a license manager.

The license manager serves as the logical component that keeps track of the licenses that the customer purchases and the licenses that customer uses. It refers to the processes that control the checkin and checkout of the licenses. It keeps track of the number of license units that are required for each phone type. The license manager has responsibility for issuing and reclaiming licenses, and detecting whether there is an overdraft of licenses.

Hey Rob, good info as always.

Does this apply to callmanager with redundant configuration? You said the license is tied to the MAC address of the publisher, what if the publisher is down? will the subscriber still function?

I know in redundant unity configuration, there is a pooled license you need to buy. Does redundant CCM6.x work similarly?

Thanks!

Hi SN,

Thanks man :) You are still good to go if the Publisher is down. You don't need to buy any type of License Pooling because one of the parts included in the license is the Node License. This indicates the number of Pub/Subs. So if you had 1- Pub and 2 - Subs the license would include number of licensed nodes = 3.

Here is an example that shows the Pub mac etc (Note the number by the VENDOR_STRING=3 where 3 is the number of nodes);

INCREMENT CCM_NODE cisco 5.0 permanent uncounted \

VENDOR_STRING=3000BCD4EE59D1.0

ileVersion> \

HOSTID=000bcd4ee59d \

NOTICE="200508261405391621 \

" SIGN="19B3 4C6C 25AC 6D22 4D75 DE6A 656B 08C5 \

B40F C551 2625 1C97 F20D 9977 6CFF 3603 081E 6FF2"

The preceding license file includes the following information:

•No expiration date for this license exists as indicated by the keyword permanent.

•This license file provides three licenses for the version 5.0 of the feature CCM_NODES.

•The Cisco specific fieldLicFileID, identifies this license file.

•You can add multiple increment lines for same feature in a license file to increase the license count. None of the INCREMENT lines should be identical and each of them should be signed independently.

Hope this helps!
