I'm looking to upgrade a 6509 from a sup 2 to a sup 720-3b. I have a spare / test 6513 chassis available in my lab. My question is can I use a 6513 to build the configurations ahead of time for a 6509 (obviously only using the first 9 slots).
I know that there are some architectural differences, but I imagine that the configurations would look similar whether staged on a 6509 or 6513. Can this be done without issue?

Your main problem will be with the supervisor blades - on a 6509 they must be in slots 5 and 6, on the 6513 they must be in slots 7 and 8. This will be a problem if you're using any of the ports on the sups for anything. Other that that, as long as you avoid using slots 10 through 13, the configurations are compatible.

Thank you, duh!
That is what I needed.
