how many routed ethernet ports supported on cisco 2851 router

Hi,all

Thanks in advance

One of my customer want 16 routed ethernet port module?is it supported in 2851 router because i am not sure about it.is this port routed or switch port

The 2851 has 2 built-in Ethernet ports. It has additional slots for network modules and there are Ethernet modules available. To get to 16 routed Ethernet ports I believe that you would have to go with the EtherSwitch module and set up multiple VLANs and do inter-vlan routing.

But my customer wants to connect another router to that routed port and wants communicate over ip. Is it possible over etherswitch 16 port NM module?Or i have to go for 1 wan ethernet port h-wic module

16 port Etherswitch NM can acts as both Layer 2 or Layer 3 interface. By default, it will be layer 2 interface and so you need to configure "no switchport" in interface config mode.


If you are looking for using all the 16 ports in etherswitch NM as router port, it would be a bad design.
