We have a few users who work from home on a software vpn client and utilize IP Communicator v2.0. When they attempt to call someone on our internal network they hear a slight echo, but the person on the Lan hears a considerable amount of echo. This call is not going through a gateway. Any ideas?

First off, Is ip communicator user is using any headset?, did you try using the "Audio tuning wizard".
If it is choppy or some other issues, you can try selecting "Optimize for low bandwidth" under Audio tab under preferences

We are using a pretty nice platronics headset, we are not hearing any choppy voice, just echo. Do you want the model of the headset?
