Solved: looking for a Fiber optic switch

hello

i was just looking for a switch with fiber optic Gbics only . Is there any model wgich compine 10 or more of that kind slots ?

Could the SFPs with fiber be used instead of the GBICs?

If not, what might come close is a 4510R or 4510R-E chassis with 8 line card slots containing any mix of WS-X4302-GB, WS-X4306-GB or WS-X4418-GB. Some of the supervisors (L2 sup2+, sup2+-10GE; L3 sup4, sup5) dual uplinks also come wth GBICs, or support GBIC converters. The supV also supports a WS-X4302-GB in slot 10.

The 6513, with up to 12 line cards, supports any mix of WS-X6816-GBIC, WS-X6516A-GBIC, WS-X6516-GBIC, WS-X6416-GBIC or WS-X6408A-GBIC.

PS:

The last two numbers in the part number are the ports on the card.

Would a 3750G-12S model work? 12 SFPs, $8K list or $12K with high-end routing (more than RIPv2).

yes SFPs with fiber could used insted, and i was wondering if there is any smaller model like the old 3550 with 8 slots of fiber.

We've used a couple dozen 3750G-12S switches and are quite happy with them. However, there are some new 3560E switches out which provide additional options - not sure on the price however.

3560E-12D 12 X2 ports (10Gig ports, with the option of adding an adaptor to turn each 10G port into two 1G SFP ports)

3560E-12SD 12 SFP ports, and two X2 ports.

If I were redesigning my campus now, instead of a year ago I would have gone with the 3560E-12SD switch. Allows to aggregate 12 1G fiber uplinks, but then have a 10GB uplink (now or in the future) to the core.

may i ask what is the differance between modules-line cards and the supervisor-engine slot ?

Depending on the architecture of the chassis, not all cards are supported in all slots. Often this restriction will be seen for line cards vs. the supervisor card. The supervisor card might be restricted to specific slots and those slots might not support other cards.
