I was taking a Practice Test available on Cisco Website (CCNA Practice Questions)ICND1

I choose options B,C and F

But the correct answer was B,C and D

I think Bridges operate at Layer 2 and I found some comments on Internet that Bridges operate at Layer 2 of the Osi Model,

But this questions ignores that option

6. What are three characteristics of a bridge? (Choose three.)

a) Bridges forward but do not filter data frames between LAN segments.

b) Bridges maintain MAC address tables.

c) Bridges are more “intelligent” than hubs.

d) Bridges can buffer and forward frames between two or more LAN segments.

e) Bridges create fewer collision domains.

f) Bridges operate at Layer 2 of the OSI model

Looking for your positive reply

Thanks in Advance

That looks like a mistake to me. A bridge is another (older) name for a switch, so bridges certainly do operate at layer 2.

I know the prep centre quiz for the BCMSN exam (part of CCNP) has some very strange and quite wrong answers (there was a thread on this a couple of weeks ago). My impression is that quiz was thrown together quickly and had not been checked. Perhaps the CCNA is the same.

It is a shame Cisco do not provide an online test which is actually like an exam. Get some simulator and exhibit based questions in there. Perhaps even a mock exam option, like Sun do for their Solaris certifications. From what I know this is exactly the same as a standard exam, but a fraction of the price and does not count towards certifications.

I also found some errors in the book of wendell odom's cisco CCENT ICND1,

He was teaching to configure static routes, but with wrong IP addresses,, like Ip assigned to s0 and he is using this ip as like,,

He didn't recheck his book and sent for publish..

My question is,, what will do new students????

Any mistake like this from CISCO is very SHAMEFUL,,

I'd say that there is tonns of slips/mistakes in the books. But it isn't nessesary a bad thing. For me it was like finding this slips and make sure the correct answer is mine not that in the book. So the books should be read selectevly with regard of possible errors made by authors, editors, printing shops etc.

Another wrong Question

24. Which command displays information about static route configuration on a Cisco router?

show route ip

show ip route

show ip route static

show route ip static

I selected show ip route static

where the correct answer was show ip route

I then write the same command on my 2621 router, that shows no errors to me,,

Whats that problem

Please advise

"show ip route" will show all configured routes on a router, including those learned from a routing protocol.

"show ip route static" will only show statically defined routes.

While both answers display static route configuration, I'd say you are correct in that "show ip route static" is a more precise answer.

for any of your cert books there will be a place to download the errata - all the fixed mistakes for a given book. just go to the publishers website and find that book and click on errata.

the reason tech books are infamously infected with flaws is because we, the engineers, seem to be too impatient to wait for all the editing.

Another question please,

2. How could you obtain CDP information about a remote device that is not directly connected?

Use the command show cdp neighbors' address.

Use the command show cdp neighbors' hostname.

Use SSH or Telnet to access a Cisco device connected to the target device.

It is not possible to obtain CDP information about a remote device.

I choose the option (Use Telnet or SSH to access a Cisco device connected to target device)

the correct answer is (It is not possible to obtain CDP information about a remote device)

Another Question

9. What information is included in the output of the command show cdp interface?

remote port ID

remote device ID

encapsulation type

number of CDP packets sent

Only one option you can choose,,

I choose encapsulation type (which is correct)

but it also shows CDP packets sent

so why this option is disable?

Another Question

17. During the Cisco router bootup process, what does the router do if the boot field value is 0x2?

runs ROM Monitor

loads IOS image from flash memory

loads IOS image subset from ROM

checks the startup-config file for boot system commands

What is 0x2

I read in books that 0x2102 is the configuration register setting when everything is normal

and 0x2142 is the value when it goes to rommon mode

can you please explain,, what is the mean of 0x2??

Your answers will help me and others in Learning,,,

Thanks in advance

Today i too was taking these practice exams on CCNA prep centre site and was mused in a way you are!

Q2: I gave the same answer and am still not able to figure out why it was wrong.

Q9: The option is 'Number of CDP packets sent'. The show cdp interface command shows that it is sending CDP packets but does not show how many packets are sent. That is shown by show cdp traffic command.

Ques 17: The 0x2 means 0x2000. This implies that:

1. Boot default ROM software if network boot fails

2. Disable break

3. ROM monitor mode. So the answer to this is 'runs ROM monitor'

Thanks for your reply,

You mean, first it will check for option 1, and if

option 1 fails then choose option 2 and if it also fails then choose option 3

and what about 0x2102 and 0x2142 and also tell me if any other value is available other than these,,

Please advise

No it does not imply that it will check for option 1 then 2 and 3. All of them are true but in the question only Rommon> was given, so thats the correct answer.

Also 0x2102 and 0x2142 are different ways in which we can configure the router.

0x2102 is the default configuration.

0x2142 is used to recover passwords.

Various configurations are possible. For more information on these configurations you can refer to MANAGING CISCO INTERNETWORK topics in Todd Lammle's CCNA book or ICND1 book.

Any value from 0x2102 through 0x210F tells the router to use the boot commands specified in NVRAM.
