1+1 APS protection

Hi Friends,

The POS SPA for 7600 SPA-2XOC3-POS says that 1+1 APS protection is supported.

Would like to know the implementation, is it per SPA (2 ports in the same SPA) or divided across different SPA ports.

Thanks

Cheers,

~sultan

Sultan,

I threw your question up on the WAN site to see if any of the 7600 experts there knew the answer.

One response indicated that they believed you could operate the APS using two ports on the same card (see url below).

http://forums.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&forum=Network%20Infrastructure&topic=WAN%2C%20Routing%20and%20Switching&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Ddisplay_location%26location%3D.2cbfe9a6

If you can set-up the APS on one card, this would not be a preferable configuration. All your APS protection would rely on one card. In the event of a card failure, the circuit would fail completely, making the deployment of the APS with little value. I would recommend that the APS circuit be across at least two cards in the same chassis. The user guide shows the APS across two different switches (ultimate protection).

Hope this helps.

Tom
