Hi,

In our setup we are using two 3550 series as the distribution layer switch,

all the uplink from the layer2 switch is connected in that and also voice gateway is connected on it

We need redunancy over the Layer3 switch.

which is the best way of deploying it whether we can go for HSRP or VRRP

Please suggest me for the above issue and give me some step by step command to configure the same .

Regards,

Vinoth

Hi Vinoth

Are your 3550 switches connected with a L2 trunk. Assuming they are here is an example of config on 3550 switches for a vlan with HSRP

3550_1

int vlan 10

ip address 192.168.5.2 255.255.255.0

standby 10 ip 192.168.5.1

standby 10 priority 110

standby 10 authentication cisco

standby 10 preempt

3550_2

int vlan 10

ip address 192.168.5.3 255.255.255.0

standby 10 ip 192.168.5.1

standby 10 priority 100

standby 10 authentication cisco

Do this for each of your vlans on the 3550 switches that you want to run HSRP for.

The default-gateway on your clients in vlan 10 would be 192.168.5.1.
