Is it preferred to utlize lacp for our Etherchannel trunking protocol? Is there a recommended "standard" everyone is using?
We just found out we can only use lacp across a stack of 3750's; however, the Cisco Configuration Recommendation for etherchannel speaks of using:
channel-group 1 mode desirable.
(desirable meaning pagp)
Would I believe Cisco may eventually follow and use LACP in much the same way as ISL became Dot1q?
We'd appreciate any feedback and/or advice. Thanks.

Perfect comparison and that's about to happen.

If the move is to use LACP, then which method would one use?
channel-group 1 mode on
or
channel-group 1 mode active

channel-group 1 mode on
That's not LACP, that's unconditional trunking.
channel-group 1 mode active
This is LACP. The link partner can be active or passive
