Could anyone recommend a book , website (or a pdf on this site) on connecting to ISPs and how to configure controllers. I'm a newbie and I'm trying to get a handle on the data link stuff,

T1/CAS, ATM and the like.

Another question, is a leased line point to point connectio considered secure based on the fact that the data only goes to the router on the other side ? would you ever run IPsec between the sites of a leased line. Thanks

Hi Tony,

For Controller you can visit:

https://avaya.com/master-usa/en-us/resource/assets/applicationnotes/x330t1e1ppp.pdf

and

http://www.bestpricecomputers.ltd.uk/servers/configuring-cisco-router.htm

For your next, the answer is Depends!!!

For the last one, answer is Yes!!! You can configure IPSec for Leased Line (P-to-P)

Thanks

I will address the part of your question about point to point leased line and security. I will observe that there is not any single answer to this that fits every situation. It depends on your environment and on what your security requirements are. Assessing whether something is secure is frequently a matter of degree. For many people a leased line can be considered secure and does not require additional security resources. But I have a customer with several leased lines connecting several locations and because of the sensitivity of the data being transmitted their security requirements did require encryption of the data while being transmitted over the leased line. So we configured IPSec on the leased lines between sites and do encrypt that data.
