I have a 3550 that connects to 2 PIX515E, each PIX has a different IP Address on its out side, but connect to the same Network.
I am looking for a way for the 3550 to use 1 of the PIX as a primary route and only use the other if the primary fails.
Any help gratefully received.
Simon.

There is a configuration on the Pix called failover, but a caveat to that is that your software must be licensed to use that feature.

are you running the 3550 in layer 3?
meaning do you have ip routing turned on?

Simon,
There's a feature called reliable static route using object tracking and this can provide the redundancy you are looking for. You can point the route on the 3550 to the primary PIX and the second route, with a higher administrative distance, needs to point to the redundant PIX. The object tracking feature would verify the status of the primary PIX and if it goes down the 3550 would start using the redundant route.
Here's a link that can help you understand and configure this solution. Let us know if you have any questions concerning this.
