"sdlc role secondary" vs "sdlc address c1 seconly"

What is the difference between these commands?

"sdlc role secondary"

and

"sdlc address c1 seconly"

If you understand the difference, please respond and help me understand. I'm interpreting the (vague) documentation as saying these both do the same thing essentially.

To establish the router to be either a primary or secondary SDLC station, use the sdlc role interface configuration command. To cancel the designation, use the no form of this command.

sdlc role {none | primary | secondary | prim-xid-poll}

To assign a set of secondary stations attached to the serial link, use the sdlc address interface configuration command. To remove an assigned secondary station use the no form of this command.

sdlc address hexbyte [echo] [ack-mode] [xid-poll] [switched] [seconly] [xid-passthru] [passive] [K number]

Hi,

"sdlc role secondary" is for PU2.0 and PU2.1

"sdlc address c1 seconly" is only to be used for NCP and FEPs which are PU4.

Normally, the SDLC address is determined by the primary. With FEPs and NCP, the SDLC address is determined by the secondary. The "seconly" option gives you a way to set the address when connecting a router to a FEP for a SNI connection. The link has more information. Use "seconly" only when the role needs to be secondary and the attached SNA device is a FEP with NCP ( IBM 3745 for instance ).
