secondary ip address - processed switched?

Hi all,

I am seeing quite a high percentage (30%) of my packets being processed switched on a 2611 router. CEF is enabled on all interfaces.

Would like to confirm if packets directed to a "secondary" ip address will be processed switched.

As a temporary solution, my router serves an additional subnet with the ip address <address> <netmask> secondary command - could this be what's causing the high percentage of process switched packets?

Thanks

Hi bangkydotnet,

Is a temporary solution during Ip migration and it do have a adverse effect on the router performance.

Hi. Indeed, this is just a temporary solution. And yes, it has a somewhat adverse effect in the sense that CPU utilization is higher than usual (though not dangerously high).

However, can it be confirmed that such packets will be process switched?
